NATIONAL NEWS ROUNDUP: GDP down & UK launch ‘Turing’ scheme for studying
The UK economy shrank by 2.9% in January according to data published by the Office for National Statistics.
The figures follow the UK going back into lockdown at the start of the year, but aren't as bad as many economists were expecting, as spending continued.
The government has launched it's post-Brexit scheme allowing students to study and work anywhere in the world. Previously called the 'Erasmus scheme', the UK's Turing scheme will - from September - fund 35,000 exchanges. Labour's Kate Green has said "the scheme provides no support to cover tuition fees" for the disadvantaged.
As the BRIT awards get set to make a comeback in May, this years shortlist for the rising star award has been announced. Griff, Pa Saloo and Rina Sawayama are all names you're likely to hear a lot of this year - with previous winners in this category including the likes of Adele and Sam Smith.
