DEMOLISHED: Bridge demolition planned
Two bridges in the middle of Bath are set to be demolished.
Council chiefs are reaching out to contractors to discuss taking down the structures carrying gas pipes over the River Avon that are soon to be redundant.
The two rusting, graffitied bridges, less than 150 metres apart, sit either side of Windsor Bridge and are prominent on the Bristol and Bath railway path.
Bath and North East Somerset Council is due to put the contract out to tender later this year.
There is no commitment to progress with the project until both land and funding is in place.
The bridges sit within the Bath Western Riverside development, a 44-acre site formerly occupied by the Stothert and Pitt engineering works and the old gas works.
The land is being transformed with more than 2,000 homes.
