LOCKDOWN WORKING: Psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos offers some insight into how the experience of working from home has affected young people’s careers and overall health

Psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos offers some insight into how the experience of working from home has affected young people's careers and overall health.

A study by Nationwide into how working from home has affected young people has shown around half of Gen Z say health and wellbeing has been impacted while 54% of Millennials say their overall mental health has worsened due to lockdown working, despite over half also reporting they enjoy the freedom enough to work three days a week at home.

The research, in collaboration with Ipsos MORI looked at thirty different companies, showed those newest to work want a bit more balance between remote working and the social shot of being in an office.

Despite 62% of Gen Z wanting to continue to work from home for three days a week, 58% of them also want to have face-to-face time with colleagues. One of the conclusions from the research was that full remote working prevents young people establishing a professional identity. The original resident Big Brother psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos says this is hugely important.
