NATIONAL NEWS ROUNDUP: Javid will not consider mandatory jabs AND Queen sighted ahead of BBC royals documentary

Here are your national news headlines for today including the Health Secretary says the government will not consider mandatory jabs, the Queen is spotted ahead of a controversial royal documentary, and a charity car ride sets off.

MANDATORY JABS: Mandatory coronavirus vaccination is not something the Government would “ever look at” bringing in, Health Secretary Sajid Javid has said.

His comments came as demonstrators took to the streets across Europe protesting against tighter restrictions amid a surge in infections.

Austria has announced plans to make jabs compulsory as the country deals with a lower vaccine uptake.

Just two thirds of their population have been vaccinated so far, and the government said jabs will be mandatory from February 1.

QUEEN SPOTTED: The Queen has been pictured after attending a rare royal double christening at Windsor.

The 95-year-old head of state was spotted wearing a lime green hat as she left the joint baptism of two of her grandsons at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, Berkshire, on Sunday evening.

Mike and Zara Tindall’s son Lucas Philip was christened alongside the son of Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, August.

Immediate members of the royal family and close friends joined together for the service, and the Queen’s attendance came after a short break from public duties on the advice of a doctor.

CHARITY MINI: A Mini Electric wrapped in 2,000 Christmas lights is to begin a five-week tour of the UK later this month to raise money for three charities.

Nicholas “Nico” Martin, 32, a software engineer from Bracknell, Berkshire, has been wrapping his car in festive lights since 2017, and has been loaned a Mini Electric by the car manufacturer for this year’s tour.

He is hoping to raise £50,000 for the MS Trust, Duchenne UK and Alzheimer’s Society with the dazzling trip, which begins on Thursday in his home town.
