TRAVEL AND TOURISM: British cities experience a boom in domestic visitors

At a national exhibition, industry professionals from the travel and tourism sector flock from far and wide as the industry gets back on its feet.

We are ready to welcome you back - thats the message from exhibitors at the British travel and tourism show taking place at venues across the country this week.

And there is a wave of confidence from industry professionals particularly following this weeks news that the USA is back open for business. Heading the event is Carston Holme.

This travel and tourism exhibition has ventured up and down the country to find those in the sector hungry to return to normality after an eighteen months many working in the industry will never forget.

And with many of us, including even some of our government's ministers, preferring a holiday here in Great Britain this summer.

It's not hard to see why some of our cities have reaped the benefits of people travelling once again.

The expo follows the news that Scotland is to ease coronavirus testing requirements for international travellers, bringing these in line with those in England.

Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said while the Scottish Government still has “concerns” regarding the change, ministers have “reluctantly concluded that, for practical reasons, alignment with the UK is the best option”.

The decision was made after talks with the aviation sector – which welcomed the move.

The change means pre-departure tests for travellers flying to Scotland who are fully vaccinated will be removed.

This means anyone arriving in Scotland from countries which are not on the red list, and who have been fully vaccinated in a country that meets recognised standards of certification, will no longer be required to provide evidence of a negative test result before they travel.

The post-arrival testing regime will also be aligned with that of the UK.
