SHUFFLED: British and Irish Lions make six changes for third Test

SHUFFLED: British and Irish Lions make six changes for third Test

PA - Steve Haag

The British and Irish Lions make six changes for the third Test match against South Africa after the Springboks levelled the series.

Head Coach Warren Gatland has reacted to Saturday’s 27-9 defeat by bringing in a revamped back three featuring Liam Williams and Josh Adams.

Stuart Hogg and Anthony Watson have made way for the Welsh duo whose aerial expertise will be essential to hopes of winning Saturday’s series decider at Cape Town Stadium, but in a surprise move, Duhan Van Der Merwe keeps his place.

Dan Biggar continues at fly-half but he is rejoined at half-back by Ali Price in a repeat of the partnership that started the first Test. Conor Murray drops to the bench.

Chris Harris is jettisoned at outside centre to make way for Bundee Aki’s promotion into the starting XV, with Robbie Henshaw sliding to 13.

The match on Saturday is a winner-takes-all scenario after the Lions won the opening Test of the three match series 22-17. It is the third Lions tour in succession to go to a decider with the tour of New Zealand in 2017 ending with a 15-15 draw and the tour of Australia in 2013 ending in a 41-16 win for the Lions.

Lions third Test team v South Africa: Liam Williams; Josh Adams, Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Duhan van der Merwe; Dan Biggar, Ali Price; Wyn Jones, Ken Owens, Tadhg Furlong, Maro Itoje, Alun Wyn Jones (c), Courtney Lawes, Tom Curry, Jack Conan.

Replacements: Luke Cowan-Dickie, Mako Vunipola, Kyle Sinckler*, Adam Beard, Sam Simmonds, Conor Murray, Finn Russell, Elliot Daly.
